ardmore people matter

Cary McClain

I have been a trial attorney in the courtrooms of the five counties for the past dozen years representing people. I have been an Assistant District Attorney, a criminal defense attorney, an insurance defense attorney and a plaintiff attorney. Similarly, the job of commissioner is to represent people.

The present Commissioner in Ardmore/Haverford Ward 4, Maryam W. Phillips, has woefully failed in this important duty. Despite clear opposition from the community, she voted to tear down one of the most viable and successful business areas in Ardmore. She failed to protect those whom she is supposed to represent. My opponent turned her back on the community.

It is UNAMERICAN to promote the tear down of a VFW; a Thrift Store supported by a women's organization which helps fund a hospital; and other thriving “'Mom and Pop' shops.

The businesses marked for destruction, by my opponent's vote, are historic buildings. More importantly, there are people in those buildings. These people have been an essential part of the fabric and character of Ardmore. They have led the movement to make Ardmore great by giving top notch services and promoting thriving storefront activity. We have work to do in Ardmore, but throwing businesses out of town and bulldozing their American Dreams is not the road to success.

The eminent domain issue is not a Democrat or Republican issue. This is about right and wrong! The government is not going to push the people of Ardmore around. ARDMORE PEOPLE MATTER. In Lower Merion we are a community of people. The people demand elected officials who will represent them, not corporations and builders. Lets have revitalization by utilizing a process of trust, respect and communication with the people and businesses in the community. People matter.
